He never knew he would meet me,
A brand new father with baby boy,
Cooing and bouncing him on his knee
With overwhelming pride and joy.
Over the years the little boy grew,
Becoming more like his father each day.
Neither of them ever knew
What lay ahead along life's way.
The boy met a girl, a very close friend.
The father watched with a twinkling eye.
The boy proposed a love without end.
The girl said, "Yes," with a smile and a sigh.
Just before Christmas they both said, "I do."
The father embraced her and said, "Call me 'Dad'."
She instantly felt a love pure and new,
For the father she wanted, was now who she had.
